Developing competency among interns in palliative care of critically ill patients

Background: Palliative care has become increasingly important in the last decades with a rise needy patients and subsequent shortage of health professionals serving palliative care, making it global public concern. Patients methods: Educational interventional study conducted Department Anaesthesiology tertiary teaching institute. Pre- post-tests by standardized validated multiple choice questions for assessment knowledge awareness were before after session. Interactive didactic lectures integrated faculty narrative from Care, demonstration among small groups, live on under aegis Anaesthesia given pre-test. A feedback questionnaire form Likert scale students’ satisfaction attitude was done at end Results: Fifty (50) interns participated study. Out 50, 28 (56%) male 22 (44%) female interns. The mean pre-test score 8.82 ± 2.13 (range 4–12) out total 20. post-test 14.44 1.72 11–17). pre- results difference significant (p < 0.0001). percentage gain 63.95%. Conclusions: Most will need basic skills various management modalities supportive therapy near future to fully fill demand which is going be doubled within next few so conducting more such sessions regularly amongst young budding doctors including very early stage develop competency observed.
